Hello, later this year I plan to start write my PDF book (not e-pub, because of compatibility issues between platforms and reading softwares). I want to insert pictures too.

And now - I’m considering to just use Word from Microsoft.

Why?

Because I exactly see how it will look after export on A4 paper. Sometimes I plan to end chapter in half of a A4 page and to begin new chapter at next page. But there is issue when I add picture to book, it will move down whole document. I investigated option to write each chapter in it’s own DOCX file, then to convert them to PDF and then all these files merge in PDF Expert, which support re-arranging pages in PDF file.

Any more ellegant solution?

Ulysses and Drafts do not meet my needs, as they dont support A4 paper format like MS Word.

Im finding solution for both iPad Pro and 5K iMac, as I plan to use both platforms.

Thanks!

now i see it

Use a page layout program like Pages or Adobe InDesign. They can output to pdf.
InDesign can do anything. Pages is much more limited.

Yes, just about any other way would be better.

While this works, it doesn't produce the best (read: easiest for the reading software to manage) PDF. You want a workflow that does all of the document assembly before exporting as the final PDF.

I good publishing app, like InDesign, would be best. You could produce separate files in Word and then when complete assemble them in Word to create a single document which can then be exported as a PDF.
