All my docs have changed to .pdf by default but I can't open them in pages.

How do I make my documents open in pages by default please.

How can I edit .pdf files without Adobe please?

This is on my Macbook pro. Thanks

By "docs", what do you mean?
What were these files "openable" with, BEFORE things changed?

Preview can do very limited editing of pdf files...

They were documents created in pages.

When I look in Finder, they now all have .pdf extensions.

That's odd.

Here's a suggestion:
1. Have one of the documents sitting out on the desktop where you can see it
2. Click on it ONE time to select it
3. Type "command-i" (eye) to bring up the "get info" window
4. In "get info" there is an area called "open with" (has a popup menu).
5. What does it say? For a Pages document, it should say Pages.
6. If it does not, try selecting "Pages" from the popup.
7. Next step -- click the "change all" button just below.
8. Close the get info window.

Does this help at all?

If you are saying the file extension changed...change it back.

If not, how did they change into PDFs?
Thats what I don't know.

It does, thank you.

Yes it does, thank you.

Do you know of a simple pdf reader/editor please?

that doesn't allow editing.
You need to be more specific. What kind of editing? Do you want to edit the text? PDFs generally don’t lend themselves to that, but some apps like PDFPen do allow limited editing. Preview does everything else.

Pages does not export its documents to PDF by default. That has to be specifically selected by you. And once they have been exported to PDF, they can no longer be edited by Pages (as you have found out). PDFPen as suggested can be used to edit PDF documents, otherwise there is also Acrobat Pro which is expensive.

I recommend PDF Pen by smile software. Highly versatile, more powerful than Preview, and way cheaper and more nimble than Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Thanks

Yes I want to delete something - I’ll look at the app you recommend, thanks.
