PDF Stroke Issues When Saving

I've designed a brochure for a client. The PDF looks great on my Apple, but on my PC it looks very heavily stroked and doesn't look quite right. This brochure is going to be printed and put online.

Anyone know any settings, or anything I can do to remedy this situation?
Also, this was created in AI.

I can reproduce the problem just on the Mac. In Preview, I see the 3D thing around the text, but the outline shows up in Adobe Reader 7 and 8, as well as in Acrobat 7.

Perhaps of interest, if I try to open that PDF in Illustrator, it complains of "An unknown shading type was encountered." I'll bet that's the text

When you save out your PDF, poke around in the compatibility settings and make sure you're asking for nice, boring vanilla output.

I hear ya. I'm more concerned with the drawn images rather then the typography at this point. I tried saving it in every format under the moon with all sorts of options, but I still get the same problems.

The reason why...

I think the problem is because of the type that has the black stroke is in outlines and the white type is a active font.
There are preview issues with fonts converted to outlines/paths and the way to get round it is leave the fonts as active.

EDIT: I have no solution for the diagrams... must be something to do with the stroke being too fine and thickening up when view @ full page view

The fonts are active, but thats really not my main concern right now.. It's the diagrams I spent anywhere from 1, 2 hours each on...

Okay, I think I see part of what is going on. If I re-save the opened PDF from illustrator using Save As…, i get the same exaggerated lines in both the line art and text. If, instead, I print through the Adobe PDF print driver (Distiller), the lines scale more smoothly in Acrobat. This doesn't fix the text shading thing, but one of two ain't bad

Vector lines in Acrobat seldom represent themselves exactly at various zoom percentages. If I wasn't worried about file size, I would convert them all to tifs and redo the layout in Quark. Then cook a postscript through distiller.

ok using acrobat 8 on a pc (xp)

open file at 100% and it looks fine to me (maybe a little stroke on some text where the letters are close to each other), the images look more of a dark grey than black. Zoom in, still no problem, zoom back to 100% and the images go darker, zoom in to 125% and then back out to 100% and its fine again

I'd say its one of the little quirks from acrobat

I exported as a .tiff, re-opened and saved as a PDF. Since this is just for web it's going to work out well. It does add appx 300k to the file size, but better then redoing the whole thing. My friend who has been in print for 10+ years told me that strokes under 1pt, get wonky. Just sent to client for verification.
