PDF to Photoshop... Blurred

So I want to edit a high quality ( 300DPI) PDF in Photoshop CS4. When I open it as a page, I notice that the text becomes slightly blurred, which is not good. How can I preserve the crispness of the PDF to prevent this ?

Also, I have many 'Cloud' brushes for Photoshop and I wanted some for Illustrator... I've downloaded them but AI says that they cannot be opened... Does anybody have some good cloud brushed please

"Blurred" = rasterized

You must first understand the difference between raster and vector images. To preserve the "crispness" of text, you must assemble/edit the document in the appropriate application. (Follow above links for more detail.)

On the rare occasion that I need to convert PDFs to Photoshop, I set the resolution to a minimum of 600 ppi. This should allow the type to print without being too jaggy.

I will add text inside InDesign and edit the drawing in Photoshop. I think that Illustrator will give me better results (?) as well?

Yes, Illustrator can edit most PDFs as vector images. There's rarely any reason to edit a PDF in Photoshop over Illustrator unless it's already a raster PDF.

Are you using Photoshop cloud brushes within Illustrator? Where are you placing the downloaded brushes? Again, it sounds like you may be confusing vector and [raster] brushes.

I'm using Vector... http://leboef.deviantart.com/art/Cloud-Brushes-HiRes-Nr-5-of-5-51375862

and placing them in the correct folder ( attached ) I then open Illustrator, select brush, go to the ' Brush libraries menu' and select the newly downloaded items from that list... It then comes up with an error message ( attached )

You keep asking how to pour "oil" in your "gas tank."

Based on the example brushes and the "photography" designation in your sig, you should be using Photoshop. There is no raster brush in Illustrator for your purposes.

I have produced some soft artistic clouds in Illustrator by adjusting transparency and blur. With more time, quasi-realistic clouds are achievable but PS makes more sense, not only because you already have the brush you like but because of better image editing capabilities in PS.

Illustrator is primarily a vector application with basic raster features (image insertion, conversion of vector to raster, application of filters). Photoshop is primarily a raster image editing program that supports placed vectors or shapes on layers. To add raster clouds to a raster image, edit in PS and then place image within InDesign (or Illustrator).
