MP 7,1 Pegasus J2i app question - how to proceed

I have just installed the Promise Pegasus J2i 8TB HD into my MP7,1 .


On this 8TB HD I see an app called J2i & the serial number.

My idea is to have this HD as a backup with a few partitions on it.

However, I wonder for what is the J2i app present on this HD.

Do I need to use it, or can I just create a few partitions on it?

That question got my curiosity going. The j2i.app is simply there to make it simpler to register the unit's warranty with Promise. It doesn't seem to have any other purpose.

Yup - I just used the app to register the disk, then reformatted it.
