iPad Pencil 2 tip is greatly improved

After watch numerous you tube videos saying the pencil 2 tip was the same as the pencil 1,
i had opportunity to try it out in the Apple Store today. Pencil 2 tip is much softer, with enhanced drag.
Dare I say it--it feels like Surface pen! I love it. Has anyone else noticed this?
Does anyone know if the replacement 4 pack tips are more like the pencil 1 or pencil 2. Almost
tempted to buy the pencil 2 just to swap the tip onto my pencil 1. Shocked no one has
discussed this in multiple MR threads.

No its the tip, definitely. Just look at the tips! or drag the new pencil on the ipad

I can't tell any difference in the actual tips. I have both pencils and the tips look and feel identical to me. I can tell that my 3rd get iPad offers a somewhat better writing experience from my 2015 gen one. I think its the iPad thats different not the tips. I haven't seen any reports that the tips on gen 2 are any different than the gen 1 tips. That would make for a good read.

2018 iPad pros have better latency that the previous iPads. That’s the writing difference you’re seeing and “feeling”. Tips are the same.

If the tips are different, and there’s only one replacement pack, they must sell the new tip replacements. Wouldn’t make any sense to only sell the old ones, unless they’re jerks.

could be...but Totally contrary to my in store impression. Calls for a second visit.
Have to admit, the 12.9" 2018 is pretty amazing "in person".

I can feel the difference without looking at the ipad--it feels rubbery

That the replacement pack came out before 2018 leads me to agree with you. If the pencil 2 tipd
is different, best case is they have a back inventory of pencil 1 tip replacement packs.

I have to go back to the Apple store this week and reassess. Clearly something is different
and I can't imagine how ipad glass could be the reason. Sure I'll get a lot attention from
the staff when I bring the pencil 1 over to the 2018 ipad table. Mostly the Apple folks are very
nice.

I tested both the new and old tips with my 2018 Pro. The new tips do feel softer and have slightly more drag. However, I don't think the tips make up for all of the difference. It's a very slight difference when drawing - the old iPad Pro's are still a lot more slippery.

Pencil came out in 2015, and I haven't seen any reviews saying that it does cause scratching

The pencil tips are the same. I have both pencils and first gen tips from when I bought the first gen 12.9 LTE ipad. I just put on an old new stock pencil tip that came in the box with the first gen and it feels the same.

Dunno if whether it's the tip or screen (or my imagination ) but the pencil feels different on 12.9.
I bought a matte screen protector for some 'drag' on the 1st gen as it felt/feels slippy..I don't feel I need to with the new one.

I compared my pencil 1 tip and my pencil 2 tip by touching them, trying to bend them. They feel the same to me.

Just did the same comparison between a 2017 pencil tip and the one on my 2018 pencil 2. The tips literally feel identical to me: same form, color, smoothness to the touch, stiffness under pressure, same sound and bounce when touching a hard surface etc.

If there are any improvements, they seem too subtle IMHO to matter under normal use.

I tested the tactile feeling this morning on a 10.5 IPP and a 2018 12.9 IPP using both a 2017 ver. 1 and 2018 ver. 2 pen.

To my senses at least they were 1:1 matched in terms of the physical sensation (resistance, sound when hitting the IPP, drag, flex etc.).

Thanks for testing. I find the ipp 2017 vs 2018 pencil experiences very different, but its good to have
