Pencil problems in Notes in iPadOS 15

Is anyone having problems using their Apple Pencil in Notes on iPadOS 15?

My pencil seems to be stuck in just pen mode. I can switch colors and that is all. If I try to switch to any other mode ie eraser mode, it just stays in pen mode. Same for changing line thickness, does not work.

Probably something stupid that I am missing but I would appreciated any suggestions.

I have exactly the same problem, I reinstall the app notes and work correctly only a few seconds.

I found a rather kludgy fix in the developers forum. If you go into settings and change the default background for Notes to dark mode, then restart your iPad, then the pencil will work correctly. Since I don't like dark background color in my notes, I found that once you begin a new note, you can then use the dropdown menu to change that note back to a light background and the pencil seems to keep working.
