Is a dbrand or any other brand skin interfering with your iPad pro and ASK connection?

Seen a couple people here who are experiencing problems with the magnetic connection or smart pin connectors when using the ASK on their iPad pro with a dbrand rear skin attached.

Could whoever is using this combination of products please leave a poll entry, and if you like, a comment tabout your situation as well.

I hope not, I kinda had my heart set on that Dragon skin for when I get my 12.9". That said I might not go with the ASK.

Yep. For me, it looks like the skin is a bit too thick, so the pins on the keyboard sometimes doesn't connect fully with the smart connector dots on the iPad. Since the ASK requires you to move around the iPad to set up "landscape" mode, there is a chance that the magnet will "slide" just a tiny bit so that the pins don't hit the smart connector dots in landscape mode. It does take a simple adjusting, but I began to notice it more and more.

The solution is to measure and trim off the smart connector side of the sleeve just enough so that the magnetic binding on the ASK will attach firmly. It doesn't feel aesthetically nice in the hand if you're using iPad without that part covered, but if you measure correctly, you'll hardly notice it (hopefully). Mine is left with scars from the surgery (not the iPad, but the skin), since there are rough jagged edges here and there that is very noticeable, but I rarely take the ASK cover off anyway, so it's fine for me.

Received my brand skin (black matte) the other day and have since installed it, exactly as the instructions dictated (all the heat application and rub down with cloth).

Interestingly, I have experienced no data interference or physical weakness of the connection. Typing with the ASK is just as immediate and responsive as without the skin, and the magnets still latch on strongly.

I'm surprised that hardly any people are using dbrand (or other) skins, judging from the very limited response to this thread. The skins provide really nice protection against scratches or nicks, and look awesome!

[doublepost=1481432755][/doublepost]I have dbrand skin on my 9.7" iPad Pro. Fantastic quality with precision cuts. It fits my iPad perfectly. However I must peel the skin off and throw it in the garbage for; whatever millimeters thick it is, is just enough so that my Smart Keyboard won't hold a connection... I'm really bummed about this as I love the skin.

Oh that's unfortunate. I have had a few times where the Smart Keyboard would not be recognised - I suspect the dbrand as well. I will be cutting a bit more generous space for the connector, so that the Smart Keyboard can connect easier.

Found these 2 gents with dbrand problems from about a year ago in a different thread... Hey guys! care to elaborate on your iPad/dbrand experiences in here?

It probably depends on the type of skin you choose. I am pretty sure the faux leather skins or the dragon skin are probably slightly thinker than the plain color skins due to the texture.

Which is why ur matte black didn't seem to have issues.

This.

I got the matte black and havent had an issue - the connection issues people are experiencing maybe due to the thicker dragon or leather skins

Resurrecting old thread. I just got a Decal Girl for my 2017 12.9 (as well as the ASK folio for my 11— that one is perfect and simple to install). The skin doesn’t feel very thick, but my iPad doesn’t recognize the keyboard being connected at all. Trimming now!
