Hello, everyone! I had a curiosity that you might be able to help with.

If you make USB backups with Finder on macOS / iTunes on Windows, do USB-C 10 Gbps iPhones complete their backups noticeably faster or about the same vs USB 480 Mbps (Lightning / USB-C) devices?

I'm considering an iPhone 15 Pro / iPhone 16 Pro: should I expect any improvements or perhaps the bottleneck is somewhere else? Currently, a 80% full 256GB iPhone 12 Pro takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour to back up.

FWIW, the other end is a 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 port.

It’s the same speed as lightning. 480mbs with M2 MacBook Air with Thunderbolt 4 cable. Imagine my *bleeping* disappointment. 😒

Thank you so kindly for replying.

That is disappointing. I don't know why Apple can't (or won't) speed up iTunes backups, after all these years.

It’s ridiculous. That was a huge selling point for me to backup my phone in its entirety within seconds… I haven’t tried imazing or any alternative so I can’t verify that but iTunes? Disappointing. I wonder if anyone has some input with this
