Well I'm officially a 'I'm not waiting for leopard or SR' new mac user. After much consideration I decided the current 17" MBP was perfect for what I need/want.
This is my first Mac, I own a managed IT services company and support PC's using Linux/Windows and will continue to do so...the mac feels a lot like a Linux computer that was tweaked for an unreasonably long period of time...but this has everything working out of the box.
I have no screen issues, lighting looks good and there are no dead pixels...it's a matte finish for anyone interested.
I've just started installing a few things, aMSN (I really like iChat but I only have a couple people on my AIM list from many years ago), Opera, Jam packs for garage band, paralells so I can do my accounting in Windows...I was also going to keep using outlook 2007 but after I synced my Nokia E61 via bluetooth for the first time I've decided to try iMail / iCal combo out...so far I'm quite happy with it.
We're on our 3rd day together so I realize my experience with it isn't very comprehensive but 99% of the time it's been my experience that bad hardware (aka lemons) are bad out of the box...if I haven't had any strange problems yet I should be decent...heres hoping anyway.
If anyone has any recommendations for must have apps that a first time mac user should have (I'm not talking big stuff, I'm talking the little obscure utilities that just make life better than it already is) let me know, I did some searches but they were all really old lists from 2005 'top 10 utilities every mac user must get').
Anyway, I thought to spare everyone another 'omg i got a new mac thread' but since I often read people saying that only people who are complaining about problems post...I thought I'd change that and post that I have a perfectly working system (albeit I can understand the heat issues people were talking about...to say it runs warm would be quite modest...but this is how it was designed so I figure I'll be ok, my desk is a hard plastic and gives enough room for it to breath).
Thanks,
Chad
