Basically if you read my other post I am brand new to the Mac world. My question is does the macs performance degrade over time like a windows based machine? From my understanding you would have to almost intentionally install spyware on a mac and viruses are non existent. So If we dont get spyware or viruses and there is no registry, am I safe to assume that the performance I am getting now will be constant for pretty much the life of my machine?

No. It does not. No registry, spyware, viruses etc... The speed will stay up. All that can slow your Mac are startup items.
Whoa there cowboy, I hate to be posting all of these negative posts in your threads but it doesn't mean that you don't have to do anything and your system will be super speedy.
You should at least be running your maintenance scripts and repairing disk permissions (zapping the PRAM never hurts either) periodically.
Though yes, the person above me is correct in that your system won't slow down over time, given that you maintain it.
EDIT: Though I originally sounded negative, maintaining your system only takes about 4 min. of your time, once a month or so. So ya don't let the fact that you have to do maintenance bring you down.
