Performance difference 32-64 MB cache?

I have to replace my failed 6-mo. old OWC SSD in my 3.2 Ghz MP. I going with a Black Caviar HDD this time ("fool me twice...").
As before, it will only be for system and apps.

Will I see any performance difference between a drive with either 32 or 64MB cache? I can save a few bucks with the former and don't need 1TB capacity with the latter. I use PS,LR and will be adding FCPX.

If its 6 months old its under warranty.

RMA it and get a new one.

Yes, that's part of the plan. Then sell it. I'm out $100 for a diagnosis, not payable by Apple because the problem was third party. Not going to install another one. They work great until they don't.

Probably not as some of the newer 64MB cache drives are slower than the prior 32MB models. You will however notice that you are now using an HDD and speed will feel at least twice as slow. Better to get a 600GB Velociraptor as a stop gap if you need HDD and don't trust SSD. At least it has a 3-5ms access time vs. 0.5ms for SSD and 8-16ms for everything else. When it is boot it matters.

Odd on the SSD. We have deployed over 50 in my office and haven't had a failure.

If you're going from SSD to HD the drop in performance from that will vastly overshadow any difference between 64 and 32 MB cache.
