How is the performance of Mac OS Sierra on a 2012 MBPr 15" base model? El Capitan has been smooth for me without any issues and I don't want to see a increase in boot or loading times if I upgrade.

Anyone with any input if it runs as smoothly on this particular model?

Sierra is just a little upgrade of El Capitan. It's the same thing. The performance it's almost the same, maybe better a little. If you don't want Siri and the other features of Sierra don't update. :p

While performance I feel is the same on my Mid-2014 rMBP 15", the battery life has taken a hit. Messages uses more CPU due to the sandboxed use of QuickTime for the embedded previews, for instance.
