Hi there! I' have a mid 2011 iMac with a 2.7GHz quad core i7 and a 5,400 rpm 1TB HDD. Now it takes more than a minute to boot and finish loading the desktop.

I've been thinking about putting in an SSD but it seems to be quite a surgery to install it without permanently removing the original HDD and DVD superdrive. So I want to see if Yosemite has a faster boot time/ general improvement in performance. I may just do a clean install of Yosemite if so, before getting it into the operating theatre.

Cheers!

Ive got a mid 2011 27" iMac with the i5 processor and with Yosemite installed on it. On average it takes a bit longer than Mavericks to boot but seems like I can use the computer straight away once it has booted to the desktop. Previously I had to wait like a minute. Overall performance on Yosemite is quick although it sometimes hangs for a second in places like the system preferences app. I recommend the update and with an i7 I'm sure performance will be great.

I have a 27" I7 and have no issues, in fact operation appears faster overall. Boot up is a bit slower but that doesn't bother me as I only reboot my iMac once a month or so. I'm very happy with Yosemitie.

overall pretty snappy. few wee minor bugs but all okay.

not as exciting an update tho if you are on a 2011 machine as we don't get handover or airdrop to iPad.

Great to hear. Any chance we may get to upgrade the internal bluetooth card? I've read the post about upgrading the MBP 2011's card to the 2012's. I also found an ifixit guide on replacing the bluetooth card.

May worth a try when I decide to open it up and install an SSD :)
But probably not in anytime soon if initial reviews seem to suggest a better overall performance just by installing Yosemite

I have a 2011 mbp and so far it's a mixed bag. Safari is much better but Markup, Airdrop, and iCloud drive are not working well. Markup and Airdrop not at all and IC drive is inconsistent.

Haven't checked out everything yet but so far am disappointed.

I have a mid 2010 iMac i7 8 GB Ram and it feels overall the same, booting up is about 3-4 seconds slower though, but I don't mind as I put it to sleep rather than shutting it down.

And scrolling seems smoother.

after evaluating the beta for a week, made the jump last night on a 2008 iMac 4GB - drastic difference over Mavericks. we were ready to throw in the towel & get an SSD & surprised the new juice Yosemite provides to such dated hardware! we're missing the snazzy features but they did get handoff to answer phone calls working & for us, the performance benefit is what this release is really about!
