I think Catalina has the potential to be a very worthwhile update to macOS with quite a few new features I really like. I have found a few quite serious bugs though, which have persisted now into the fourth beta. The most serious of these is that my Mac refuses to sleep and runs VERY hot. I mean seriously hot, too hot to touch. I left it alone for over 48 hours after first installing the Beta, in case it was indexing and generally sorting stuff out, but the problem persists. When the problem carried over to Beta 3, I decided on a clean install but the problem still persisted, even on a virgin install with default settings and no third-party software. Updating to Beta 4 has made no improvement. I can't see any obvious culprits in Activity Monitor and, in use, the Mac feel fine, with no sluggishness. If I set a screensaver running though, that stutters and freezes so clearly something's going on.
Other persistent problems are an inability to connect to Windows shares on the network, DVD player doesn't work properly, just showing a black screen, AirDrop doesn't work (and they seem to have dropped the ability to connect to older Macs too) and I can't play music from the Mac to AirPlay speakers using the Remote app on my iPhone. The music's visible but pressing 'play' produces no result. The only reported bug I've so far seen fixed is that Remote Disc has reappeared in the sidebar. Hopefully, as the Betas continue, these problems will be sorted. Mac mini Server (Late 2012).
