Okay, I just got my new Macbook Air 13 and would like to share some views on it.
My old MBP has 2.66 c2d cpu, 4 gb ram, 320gb hard drive, 9400m + 9600m gt video card.
My new MBA has 1.86 ghz, 4gb ram, 128 gb SSD, 320m video
1. Size
Well the Air weights lighter, no brainer, but the screen size do need some getting use to. It do feels light, MBA is more portable and more comfortable to use in my case.
2. Performance
I am not a heavy user, only some microsoft office applications, web surfing, a little gaming and so forth. The Air is snappy, lighting fast and quick in responding, not that the MBP is slow, but the Air is faster, mainly due to the hard drive IMO. 4gb ram for the Air is highly recommended in my view.
3. Heat
The Air is much cooler comparing to the Pro. Even though figures show that the Air temp is sometimes higher, e.g. watching youtube will boost up the temp to 70+ c. But in fact it "feels" much cooler than the Pro, dont know why it is though.
4. Fan
The fan, in idle state or tasks like web surfing, both are pretty much the same. But in heavy tasks like gaming, well, the Air is like a jet engine, the fan kicks up to 6000+rpm, I think it is because of the previous version of the overheating Air so Apple installs a much more powerful fan inside the current Air. I have heard 6000 +rpm fan kicking in in the Pro and Air, the Air is much louder.
5. Gaming
I play SC2 on OSX, I always switch to the 9600m gt in the Pro before to get a decent video performance. Surprisingly the Air offers me the same recommended settings in the SC2, and I do not need to log out and do the switching anymore. I would say the video performance is pretty much the same.
Well, thats pretty much my review on both machines. Thanks for reading.
