i just bought this mic and headphone for using skype or YM on my macbook air. I realised that it got 2 jacks- one for mic and one for earphone. Can it be used on my macbook air coz my MBA only have earphone input. I went to the preference and it didnt detect it...the input is still built in mic. Or i must buy the Mic that using USB?

You can get a USB dongle that has a headphone and a mic input in it and a bit of software that makes it work. Think it is made by Belkin.

No it DOES NOT.

You will need the Griffen iMic...

plugging the iphone headset does nothing for the microphone - the reason is that the MBA doesn't know there is a MIC plugged into the system that way (plus it is an audio OUT jack only) - and it will default to the built in microphone.

my bad, I thought it did

I think it has to do with the 4 point connectors or something like that. Shame on Apple though since the new macbooks and macbook pros you can use the iPhone headset in iTunes.

Yep - an absolute missed opportunity - I thought for sure they would have had it included in the MBA after seeing all the ipods getting it in September....

chipmunk voice when I use headphones

I have a MacBook Air. Everytime I plugged my headset, I hear chipmunk voice instead of normal voice. (I bought Motorola and Logitech, both of them same results)The headset works fine listening to music only when I use YM & Skype. Speaker is fine when chatting. I need help to fix the problem.

ERM, YES IT DOES.

I can ring you on mine if you like, or just quote the apple website:

"Audio

Stereo speakers
Omnidirectional microphone
Headphone mini-jack
Support for Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic"

See:

http://www.apple.com/uk/macbookair/specs.html

The jack is DEFINITELY 4 pin.

So yes you can use an external mic that uses a jack not usb. As far as an adapter goes, a USB one is lower quality. You are better off getting one for the headphone port as that uses the nice, high quality sound card.

I mentioned this here (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1147144/) previously.

Adapters can be bought:

US:

Agree - my newest version MBA has the 4 pin jack that allows you to use the mic on iPhone headsets on the MBA. The previous versions did not, however.
