I want to deck out my RV with tons of Hue lightbulbs and LED strips.

Unfortunately it seems the base unit needs to be attached to an ethernet router for it to communicate with the various iPhone apps. Does anyone know of a mobile MiFi or satellite internet that works with an ethernet router?

Or possibly just a LAN set up that will work locally but not necessarily connected to the web?

I must have my RV lit up like a christmas tree... yessss

Something like this?

Plugs into anything Ethernet and sets up a WiFi network (and is capable of running on 5V). If your RV has a 110V hookup, an AirPort Express would also work.

I may be wrong, but that sounds like the opposite of what I'm looking for. I have wireless internet and need ethernet. Not the other way around.

The Hue system only works with ethernet. And it needs two-way communication. I tried setting up an ad-hoc with sharing, which allowed the Hue app to find the hub, but it's only one way, so the hub couldn't send info to the lights.

I basically need a normal hardwired ethernet hub in my RV that gets it's internet from a MiFi or satellite source.

If your laptop has an ethernet port you can use that. Under your system pref there's a "sharing" section that lets you share your wifi that you're pulling in from the mifi to pass the interwebs through your ethernet jack. Something like that anyway.
