I just noticed that the relatively simple Phone app takes up almost 2GB. I don't have Visual Voicemail, so it's not voicemail messages that take up space.

Updated to iOS 17.0.3 (Clean install) via iTunes a few days ago. No backup, so it's not accumulated data either.

Is there a bug, or simply due to the major update of the phone app in iOS 17?

Others experiencing this?

Phone is 10.3 MB on my iPhone 13 running iOS 17.0.3. Something is definitely amiss there!

Okay, that was quite a difference. I've added quite a few call pictures and posters to my contacts, but they can't possibly take up that much space. They should also fill in the contact app, and not in the phone app. I'll have to see if it won't be fixed in a later update.

Do you have a lot of saved voicemails on your phone? I'm not even sure where those are saved within the file system, so that may have nothing at all to do with it...just a thought, though

I checked mine and it uses 3.8 MB, with call history and such. Definitely something strange in your case...

I switched from IP 13 Pro to 15 Pro at launch day, did NOT restore iTunes or iCloud backup, but to my surprise, all my call history was synced back on the new phone, through iCloud. I'd have preferred to start fresh, but I haven't found a way to reset phone app data

Nobe. My Voice Mails are not saved in the app, as my carrier does not support Visual Voicemail. To hear my Voice Mails, I have to call a number where I can listen to them.

In the meantime, I've searched around a bit, and can read on Reddit that several people are experiencing the problem. The thing is that every time I open the Phone app and open a contact with a profile picture or call poster, the amount of data in the phone app increases. So it's a bug that will hopefully be fixed in iOS 17.1.
