Phone app keeps crashing

After getting off a 5-minute-or-so phone call with my friend, I can't seem to get my Phone application to work anymore. Launching it brings it to the keypad, which sits there momentarily but doesn't fully load, then crashes to the Home screen. I can call people via Contacts, but it never actually loads the phone app, and there's no interface (no keypad, no hang up, no speakerphone etc.) so I have to wait until they hang up for the call to disconnect. I can still send and receive calls and SMS, but the phone application is buggered.

Syncing with iTunes didn't work, nor did a hard reset. I definitely do not want to restore and transfer everything again! I've read somewhere that some apps can cause these sorts of problems, like Kate, but I don't have that installed. What else can do it? I have Cydia, Installer, WinterBoard, BossPrefs... any ideas?

Do you have Kate installed? I've read a lot of symptoms like what you're describing that were caused by Kate.

If so, uninstall and see if it stops.

How do I go about doing that? Do you mean restore/jailbreak?

Right, I don't have Kate installed, as far as I know. I did install it briefly but I had no problems then I promptly uninstalled it. When I visit its page in Installer my option is "Install," not "Uninstall". I have read some issues about it regarding the EDGE toggle in BossPrefs, that when EDGE is off, the Phone app continually crashes. But even when EDGE is on it crashes. :( This is really starting to tick me off. My iPhone is essentially not a phone at the moment.

Restoring it would be your best bet.

Blaggh. I just got this thing yesterday.

Alright. Looks like more hassle tonight.

I'll post again to let you guys know how it goes. I hope it doesn't happen again. It appeared to happen spontaneously.

Edit: If I restore, I will have to reunlock/rejailbreak, am I right?
 
I had the same problem and it was somethign I had installed in Cydia. I just removed a heap of stuff and it came good, I should have noted which one was causing it and no it wasn't kate.
 
I had the same problem when I first jailbroke my phone. And the second and third time. The first time I couldn't use the phone at all. I couldn't even use the number pad to dial a number. The second time, I couldn't text but could make phone calls. (That was a problem because I do text a lot.) The third time I could text but not make phone calls.

After reading and searching the forums I tried one last time but didn't install Installer. I have had no problems at all since.
