iPhone Phone Backups Not Backing Up Jailbroken Parts?

Hello All,

I used to have an iPhone 2G, and had it until the 4S came out. I ended up getting the Galaxy SII for the bigger screen (HUGE MISTAKE!), and a year later have now bought an iPhone 5 because the Android phone was absolutely intolerable.

Long story short, when I used to back up my jailbroken iPhon 2G, I seem to remember it saved the entire image of the phone, including all jailbroken apps and tweaks. Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I was reading about jailbreaking iPhone 5 the other day, and I seem to remember seeing an app that advertised the ability to back up the jailbroken apps somehow, insinuating that the regular back up through iTunes doesn't do it. Is this true?

I have been away from the jailbreaking community for a while since I had the Android phone for a year.

He has an iPhone 5, he can't look for any of those things. He's gonna have to wait for a jailbreak to be released. I wouldn't worry about backing up jailbroken apps for now. It's going to be a VERY long time before you see an iPhone 5/A6 jailbreak.

Thanks folks. Am I remembering incorrectly though, or did the original jailbreaks used to get saved in the iPhone backup?

I am still waiting for my iPhone 5 to arrive, so I hadn't thought about checking for jailbreak possibility yet. I'm not too worried about not being able to Jailbreak the new iPhone right away. Most of what I will need (I think) is already on the phone these days, and the main benefit is the customizations, which I can live without.

going from Cydia apps from 2G to iPhone 5 you are better off to start fresh any way allot has changed my friend.. many of those tweaks would no longer be supported or better versions of the tweaks might be out. I thought TS just wanted to know how he is going back them up once he can jailbreak it.

True. Yeah, I'm not planning on trying to sync a jailbroken 2G up to a 5. I was just wondering about how the back ups work these days. I've heard the programs that exist now for backing up the jailbroken portion have some sort of problem associated with them, and people are recommending you just write down what apps you have and reinstall them after restoring your phone. I just hope the Cydia app runs faster now on the new iPhone. It used to crawl on my iPhone 2G.

Actually, just like I said in another similar thread the Failbreak used by Chpwn required a developer account and was of no use to the average user. If we see a jailbreak at all for iOS 6 I'm going to be surprised.

It will be some time before a public jailbreak.

Everytime we have a new firmware level, the n00bs always rush into claiming the jailbreak will be out any day.

And those of us who know better, just chuckle since we know these release day jailbreaks are done via developer tools which cannot and will not be useful for a general release jailbreak.
