Randomly, my iPhone 7+, when taking pictures, will go black, the circle spinning icon comes up, and spins for 5-6 seconds, then my phone locks, and is fine.

Any idea what is causing this? It has happened 6-7 times in the last month since I've had my phone.

I was in my closest Apple Store earlier in the week with a similar issue to you (my camera doesn't work at all). The genius said that Apple are aware of an issue, and its becoming more and more frequent.

I would book an appointment at the Genius Bar and you should set it swapped. Mine worked once, and since then, I just get a black screen.

With an issue like that, I would look to get it swapped sooner rather than later. After all, in this day and age, you would expect an £800 phone to have a camera that is reliable!

Just make sure you are sure you will be able to reproduce the issue when you get to the store though, as I had to wait a little over a week for my appointment.

Hope you get it sorted!

Thank you. It just is unfortunate the nearest is almost 150 miles away, then having to deal with the chaos and the lines. Apple really needs to find a better alternative somehow.

Wow! That's a pain!

They're getting too big for their own good now, and the customer service is slacking.

I called my local store 25 times yesterday in total, and after 3 minutes of ringing, it ended the call!

I wouldn't be surprised if they started handing work to smaller independent repair companies to help with the demand...

There is an alternative; call apple support, tell them whats going on and how you've read they are aware of the issue and say you'd like a replacement phone. Once they agree (hopefully not too much push back on that...they're apple and usually want to please the customer), tell them you are too far from an apple store to reasonably go there for a swap and that you would like your new phone mailed to you. Then, mention that you cannot be without your phone because you use it for work/school/whatever so you'd like to send your phone in once you receive the new one. I can't remember the specifics at this point, but they may ask for your credit card for a deposit in case you don't mail them back the phone and keep both. Hope you try this and it works, I think it will if you are polite but adamant.

I had to get my iPhone 7 Plus replaced a couple days ago because my rear camera kept freezing up every 10 seconds or so. Some days it would work perfectly fine, but other days it would stop working completely. Rebooting didn't fix it and restoring didn't fix it.

If a restore doesn't fix your problem, then you probably got a fault camera on your hands and it needs to be replaced.
