phone function while using gps apps

what happens to either tomtom or navigon function when you need to either make a call or receive a call? is the navigation process interupted or does it continue to operate and direct you even though you are using the phone

I don't think that either will direct you while you're on the phone. The iPhone closes thrid party apps when you go to anything else. Tomtom states that their app will allow you to do something like this inside the app but it may be that it just saves where it left off.
