Well, how hot does it really get? Is it extreme close-to-burning-my-fingertips hot? It is normal that an app which constantly accesses the network and the speaker will draw some power and heat up the device a bit. But if it's really extreme and if you see your battery percentage dropping very quickly, then you are the victim of a bug (but I have not really seen any other people reporting anything like that).
Simple. It's gets hotter than any app on my phone including mapping apps.
