Phone insurance?

Unfortunately, it will not. That's what the girl at my local Cingular store told me, anyways.
best way to tell is any phone that you have to pay more than 100 bucks for after contract is not going to eligible for phone insurance.
Phone insurance is a total rip-off anyway, I'd have to pay £60 for mine, and the phone is only worth £120.. And for the first year they have to fix stuff under warranty anyway so it's practically worthless.

I usually take up the insurance provided by my network (Orange UK) after the first year of owning a phone. So far this year, it's paid off several times over! My K750i died at the beginning of this month. Orange replaced it by courier the very next day. Yesterday I found that one of the keys on the replacement had failed. Phoned Orange 12pm yesterday and a courier turned up with a replacement today (a Sunday!) at 11am. That is great service. Not only did I get two replacements within 24hrs of reporting the fault, I also got extra sets of heaphones and two 64MB memory sticks!
Been with Orange for 10 years now and their service has never been anything short of exemplary.
I kind of like it. I pay like $5 a month for insurance on it that covers all accidental damages or if it is stolen. Yeah if I have to use it I have to pay a $50 detectable but after that the cell company eats it. I going to say my phone would cost 130 to replace with out insurance. So I think it is a small price pay.
So this means if your phone is stolen once you pay $130 without insurance and $50(excess)+$60 (insurance over 1 year)=$110 with it. Are the odds of it being stolen 80-85%? I'm not convinced it's so great a deal
, though I kinda agree with displaced for year 2, depending on the value of the phone after the first year, and it's good to hear the service is excellent.
I was just reading a couple stories about cell phone insurance at MSNBC.com yesterday. Apparently there is a class-action lawsuit here in the US due to some shady cell phone insurance practices.

The reason more expensive phones aren't covered is becasue they give you refurbs that cost less that the deductible they make you pay. The more expensive the phone is, the more likely a refurbished version of it is likely to cost more than your deductible...so basically they collect monthly premiums from you and then make you pay a deductible that costs more than the replacement they are providing to you if you actually need to utilize your insurance coverage!

Does that Orange insurance cover accidently dammage? I'm wanting to get a contract phone on Orange and will definitely want insurance that covers me if I do something stupid with it...
Man, I remember when I was in middle school, I think the smallest phone available was the Motorola StarTac and you had to be making some good money to afford those. I've never purchased phone insurance myself but if your scared of someone stealing your iPhone at school then I wouldn't take a $500 device to school, thats what I would tell my daughter at least, actually if she was in Middle school she wouldn't be owning an iPhone, or a cell phone for that matter.
Quickly browsing the terms and conditions, it looks like as long as you've not been grossly negligent, you're covered.
Let me tell you a little story. It's rather embarrassing and features a close-shave with death!....
I was coming back from the pub, more than a little bit drunk. I took my phone out of my pocket, fumbled, and dropped it. It hit the kerbstone on the edge of the pavement and bounced into the (fairly busy) road. I stepped out to pick it up, glanced up, and noticed a double-decker bus heading for me... and my phone. As I bent down to retrieve the phone, I realised I could either pick up the phone and get myself flattened, or I could run back to the pavement. I chose the latter.
There followed a good 1.5 seconds as I watched the bus approaching the phone. It'll go straight between the wheels.... won't it?
Nope.
Front and rear wheels went straight over the phone. I'm sure I heard the bus driver laughing maniacally as it happened. I managed to retrieve the remnants of the phone... Completely squished. SIM card buckled and destroyed.
I took it into the Orange shop the next day. The staff were crowding around it... awed at the carnage and, I must say, laughing a little. I walked out with a new phone and a temporary pay-as-you-go SIM until my replacement contract SIM arrived in the post two days later. All free of charge.
Like I say, Orange have treated me well
