phone is giving me error when I put into it's dock

When i plug it in to the dock, Itunes tries to read it then it says:

iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to it's factory settings.



Then, when I click restore, it gives me this error:

The iPhone could not be restored - an unknown error occurred (-18)

I have done nothing other than sync music to my iPhone. Music, that eventually disappeared god knows how.

I haven't tried unlocking it or anything. So I don't know what could be the problem

Yeh, sounds like some kind of hardware failure. Take it back.

yeah tried it all, doesn't read the phone still. Other than that it seems to work well

Yup, just got off the phone with apple. They've declared a hardware failure on the device.

Had it for 3 days

I hope this isn't any indication of Apple's reliability.
