Could somebody please explain this: If the iPhone can maintain a persistent connection with Yahoo! to receive push IMAP mail and continue to receive calls, then why can't it take a break from downloading a web page to receive a call?

Just wondering if there's some technical explanation for the discrepancy.

Because the mail heartbeat is very small and only happens every few minutes (whatever it's set for).

When a call comes in, the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) looks up the cell you're in. The cell will check to see if you're busy with data.

It's far less likely to run into very short, rare bursts.
