Phone Resale Value

Outside of Apple, do Galaxies retain the most value? Around the time of the next iPhone, a 64 GB 6+ will sell for more than a 64 GB GS6 Edge, right? Or is the difference going to be negligible at that point?

Swappa is hitting the S6 Edge prices a bit and it's frustrating since I don't want to sell a phone lower than what it will take to get a 64 GB 6+ brand new.

Apple has great resale value. If you are talking Samsung or any other phone you won't get nearly the full value you spend on it and shouldn't expect that the S6 will sell for the same price as a new 6+. I would suggest that the S6 would drop down by about 1/3 of it's value for resale.

I've always found Apple devices retain best resell value. The S6 Edge is the king on Android at the moment, the problem is there is always something new and more exciting just around the corner - and I have no doubt if the Note 5 gets as much design treatment from Samsung as the S6 Edge did - the S6 Edge resale value will fall quite significantly in September.

Yeah it seems like I have not found a Android device that retained its value yet. Its just too many out there. iPhone's always retain their value. That's why I am able to buy the new model on release day since I sale my old iPhone for a killer price, especially if its unlocked.

I'll give you a real-world example. I just sold my 64gb iPhone 6+ on Swappa. It was six months old and in mint condition. I got $700 for it (plus a few cases). The 64gb Galaxy S6 is selling right now in Mint condition for just a bit under $600 and it's just a month or two old.

When I buy an Android device I know I won't make much on it when I go to sell it away (typically 40-50% of the original retail price). But when I buy and Apple device I can generally expect to get 80% of it's retail price when I sell it 6mo-1yr later.

Apple devices are the kings of the resale market as they hold their value better than any Android device out there.

The only exception may be Nexus devices holding more value due to the updates and stock experience depending on the device.
