Phone shutting off with 30%+ battery

Has anyone else seen this in the latest Beta? Phone powers itself off then says I need to plug it in. When I reset it entirely it boots back up and there is 30%+ battery left. Is this a configuration issue, misreading and reporting how much is left incorrectly? Or an actual battery issue.

I know there were issues reported in ios9 of this bug, but assumed that had been corrected.

If possible try to discharge phone to like 5% and keep it like 1h after it reach 100%. Battery do not looks to be badly worn...

However in my SE I have the same voltage with 10% battery left. As I have different device I can't tell you if it's battery problem or not. But voltage seems to be much lower than expected.
I hope someone with your device can post screen with similar battery % state.

80% of initial battery capacity for a 6s is pretty bad. My 18 months old iPhone 6 is at 97%.

Have you exposed your phone to intense cold or heat recently?

Sure sounds like a battery issue to me, current lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries don't need to be calibrated. What you're describing just sounds like a bad cell or something similar.

If you can go back to iOS 9 and the issue goes away, maybe it is just a software issue?

Does the issue occur in more extreme temps, either really warm or cold? When battery capacity falls below a certain percentage of the initial maximum capacity, iPhones are known to trip the thermal sensors far more often and at less extreme temps.

Just another thanks for pointing out the app. Question though: seems a lot of info isn't there anymore (cycles, temperature). Is this an iOS 10 thing blocking access to that info?

Yup, it's iOS 10 betas (so far).

I'm guessing there might be a few issues with this battery app under iOS 10. Over the last 5 hours or so my battery has gone from 95% Capacity / 5% Wear (very good) to 77% Capacity / 23% Wear (bad). I'm thinking not somehow.

I had a similar issue, tried quite a few software-oriented solutions such 'restore as new' and battery recalibration. The battery apps disagnosed my battery at being 60% of capacity but when I went into Apple Store their diagnosis suggested the battery was in excellent condition.

In the end, after multiple Apple Store visits, I was quoted £200+ for a new iPhone. I explained to them that this issue is a manufacture issue since I am unsure how exactly I could damage my battery charging every night and using it like a phone. In the end after a few words such as 'disappointed', 'frustrating' and 'EU consumer rights', they swapped it out at no charge. No issues since.

This app only works with iOS 9. The data that it displays from iOS 10 is the data that Apple wants you to see. See how in the screenshot posted by the OP that the app is reading 28% remaining and the iPhone itself is at 28%? Thats not really true. The battery capacity remaining never matches what iOS reports. When iOS reports 100% the battery is truly only 95%. When iOS reports 50% the battery is at 47.5%. Therefore if iOS is reporting 28% the battery is really only roughly 26.5%. iOS and the battery are only ever in-sync at 1% remaining. Thats the easiest way to prove if the app is truly working or not. So with iOS 10, the app only works for battery health, and I don't know how accurate that is anymore. All these battery apps are useful on iOS 9, but worthless IMO on iOS 10.

So as viperGTS said, it will show tricky charge, but on iOS 9 only. Thats the main reason why I use this app, to make sure my battery is truly at 100% before unplugging. But that can no longer be done in iOS 10.

Yes, under iOS 9, the app is more accurate about battery percentage remaining than what iOS reports. This also goes for Macs. For whatever reason, 100% reported by iOS/macOS is really only 95%. You can't overcharge the battery, so I don't understand why Apple won't let it charge to 100% automatically. You have to use the app to make sure its truly at 100%.

This has happened to me. Pretty much the same problem – shuts down at around 20%. Apple replaced the phone. Basically the battery has degraded too much.
