I have been using iCloud Photo for years and thus, all my photos are always uploaded to the cloud automatically. However, when I plug in my iPhone, the Photo app asks me to import photos and also claims "5k photos have already been imported". That does not make much sense, does it? Every photo has been UPLOAD to the cloud, not "imported" to the Photo app.

Also, those random 5 "new" photos it asks to import right now are actually from a trip in 2019 or so.

The photos have been imported into the Photo app on your macbook by iCloud photo synchronisatio - they are uploaded from your iphone and then downloaded and imported into your Macbook.

It is a bit erratic and can get confused ( I have several hundred photos it says need to be imported even though they have already been - I've never found a way round aside from importing and then deleting the original)
