I am looking for a piece of software (preferably a free version) where I can hook my camera to my computer via USB and take a shot and see it full screen on my computer.

Is there anything out there like this? Anything free by chance?

I don't think you'll find any free remote-capture software.

What kind of camera? Canon ships with software that allows remote capture, I'm assuming most of the rest do too. Just find your original install discs.

Nikon doesn't. You have to buy Camera Control Pro 2 which is about $60.

http://www.sofortbildapp.com/ is free and for nikon cameras. works quite well. maybe it has the features you need.
