In the updated messages app, I'm trying to download photos sent to me. I've clicked on the download photos button next to it and I've tried downloading individually and they don't show up in my photo album.

Any ideas?

Check if it shows under Recents. It may be in your full Library but not as the latest photo. I believe the Library > All Photos is sorted by photo's date, not date added.

Go to your photos app, they should be in there with a message icon in the lower left corner letting you know the picture was sent through the messages app.

On my iPad there's a tiny name top center showing who it's from, but it's only visible when the photo is open, not in Library view. Clicking on the link opens the conversation.

Is there anyway for the photos to be auto downloaded into your Photos without manually download?
Just like how Whatsapp is.

Although I'm not using it, I believe the new Shared With You > Automatic Sharing > Photos might do this.
