Hi, sorry if this has been posted. I just upgraded and I don't have the "Photo" icon or view under library. The new view that's supposed to do Day, Month, Year etc.

I am guessing this shows up after indexing is done? I don't have any indicator that it's working on my photos like on my iPhone with iOS 13.

Thanks.

I have attached snip from my machine (the one is dark mode) and a snip from Apple's announcement which shows the "Photos" option at the top of library.

Any ideas why I am missing this?

That's odd. I have the photos on the list. See attached image. Maybe you can leave the computer, let it finish the curation, and then restart the app or computer to see if it works?

I have the same probleme and it is quite frustrating to be honest.
A bit of background for my case:
MBP late 2011
Just updated with RAM, SSD and Catalina.
The library is about 225gb large, 40k+ items.
Would really appreciate if there is a fix.

EDIT: just tried to create a new blank library, same issue.

EDIT2:
Known issues
In Photos.app: There is no tab for "All Photos." However, if you right-click any photo, you can choose, "Show in All Photos" and the expected "All Photos" functionality is displayed.

Thanks guys. I don’t have it in the drop down menu either. I’ve let the machine run for days thinking it might be indexing. I would at least expect it to be there and say scanning library when connected to power or something like the iPhone.

Thanks! I have the same machine. Maybe something to done with the unsupported Mac patcher? I’ll try the right click fix. Does it stay after that?

This is more as a way around the problem than a fix tbh but it does the job for now.
I just installed the latest Catalina update on a 2018 mbp, all fine but no update available for our older version (maybe the patcher as you say)
FYI I used your screenshot here as well:

You likely using an unsupported Mac. There is a separate thread for unsupported macs.

Thanks, I tried the right click and I had the Show in Photo option. I selected it, but it still stayed in Recent which was where I was. It did show all photo's, but it certainly wasn't the new screen they are boasting about, with some large and small and videos playing muted. It looked more like the old "photos" screen. No Photo icon on the left margin like my snip after right clicking.

I am and I posted in that 250 page thread and it got lost. I don't think the bug I have is that widespread.

If you've booted into Safe Boot mode, you can't view the Photos tab. Perhaps this not being a supported Mac somehow forced the system in "Safe Boot" mode, or it's using a generic video driver (as is the case when being in Safe Boot), therefore it cannot view the Photos tab?

I’m definitely not in safe mode, but I bet the video driver has something to do with it.

Ive the same issue, since my Mac is also unsupported...
It‘s a general issue, nothing wrong with your specific Mac.
For now we have to live with that...

For me it‘s annoying, that when I use the right-click workaround, the photos are not correctly sorted by time and date... (is it the same for you?)
Therefore, I made an intelligent album, called it „All photos“ using the search criteria „Taken is not 1.1.1900“

Yeah, the right click is not a solution. It’s really not the “All Photos” design of Catalina. It’s closer to Sierra. No Day, Month, Year view buttons at the top and no filters for screen shots, or large and small views with video previews. Just gonna live with it for now, no other option. Maybe Dosdude will fix it if it’s an unsupported workaround.

The issue is not that big of a deal to me to go back to HS. I use the machine for surfing the internet and a spreadsheet every now and then. I use my phone for almost everything else including accessing photo. I even air play with my phone instead of the MBP.
