Im in need of a good photo organization tool for pc, something that can help clean up multiple copies of images from different folders as well as helping distinguish different images with same name. I have way to many backups of photos from different phones as well as older images that are scattered across different hard drives. Just need to get all of them organized.

I'm doing just this at the moment. I'm using Adobe Lightroom. It does have pretty good photo management capabilities. I was already aware of LR, a little research convinced me it was the way to go.

So far so good. Time consuming process though - I'm up to 2007 :)

Don't thing anything can really beat Lightroom at the moment. It's what I use :)

I love Lightroom myself, but there are some others.

There's open source dupeguru, which also has a picture-specific version (dupeguru-pictures or something). It can use some fairly sophisticated tools to compare files.

And MacPhun just came out with a photo browser called Snapselect, $15 in the Mac App Store. I believe it can group duplicates and has a pretty cool interface. But unfortunately there's no demo version, so I dunno if you wanna risk the money on it. But take a look.

The advantage of LR is that it will not only help with this project, but should continue to keep you organized for years to come.
