Why do no photos show in screensaver? Worked fine in Big Sur!

Same issue here. I've not seen any other mention of it beside this one. I was beginning to think it was only me. Hopefully it is fixed in today's release.

Yes. Weird. The screen saver with photos works just fine on my M1 Mac Mini. Does not work correctly on my Intel 16" 2019 MacBook Pro. Wonder if the issue is Intel vs. M1 based.

Same here! Photo-based screensaver doesn't work on my iMac late 2015 on Monterey. Worked perfectly before.
I get a dark black veil on screen and can only guess the pictures underneath.

It initially doesn't work but if I wait about 2-3 minutes, pictures will finally show up in the screensaver (real mode, not in the System Preferences pane). Looks like a rendering pause or something.

I was surprised today when I updated my computers and noticed that while the M1 13" MBP has no problem with the screen savers and is displaying the images just as usual, just the way I've set things up, there is a distinct problem with my 15" 2018 MBP, which until I had done the Monterey update was also handling the screensaver images just fine. Now it's not -- the situation is as was described above, like a dark veil over the images.

OK, I just ran another test and this time used one of the stock screensavers and it does work just fine; what does not is my custom screensaver setup, which is linked to a file of some of my favorite images that cycle through. This works perfectly on the M1 MBP so obviously there is some glitch when it comes to either the Intel platform or something else.

First beta of 12.1 released to developers today. Hopefully someone will report that this issue is addressed. I'm not a developer myself.

Got my M1 Pro MacBook Pro today and the screen saver works correctly on it. So I believe that the issue is only on Intel based units. Hopefully Apple will get it resolved soon.

the screensaver not working on Mac after the macOS Monterey update, the screen turn black, when the screensaver starts playing, instead of displaying photos from a folder or album that you’ve selected in System Preferences

Hi KoolAid-Drink,
Can you tell me the difference between "real mode" and "system preference pane"? Thanks

Thank you KoolAid-Drink for the info! It does work in real mode. Better than nothing while waiting for an update!
Excuse my ignorance, how can I switch to real mode? I would like to use my screen saver with photos but I just can't. Do you mind to tell me step by step what I need to do ? Thanks
