Photo Stream Delete

Noob here and trying to figure this out. I'm running out of icloud backup space and can't figure how to delete photstream pics.

The pics that I'm wanting to delete are on my PC (and iPad). I'm assuming if there is a way to delete the photosream pics they will not be deleted off of my other devices? Thanks in advance.

One of the huge drawbacks of Photostream (and the reason I don't use it) is that you actually can't delete individual photos. Either all of your photos are synced and in the stream, or you turn it off and don't use Photostream whatsoever.

Basically, if you want to keep using Photostream and delete some photos from it, you'll have to disable it which in turn deletes all the photos from Photostream, and then re-enable it and add the pictures you want to keep in iCloud.

So, just to be safe should I move the pics on my PC to a different folder before disabling Photostream and avoid them being deleted? i could care less about the pics on my iPhone's photostream

You can turn the whole thing off, but Photostream does not count against your space. You get your GB amount + 1,000 photostream photos. So killing it won't help you.

OS 5.1 will allow you to erase individual pictures, but again, this won't help you.

If you're running out of space I suggest copying stuff out of your camera roll to your computer and then erasing them from the roll. THAT is part of the iCloud backup, so if you have a lot of videos in there it might be what's making your backup so large.

Photostream can not erase photos on a PC/Mac. All it does is copy them to the computer. At that point they belong to the computer and Photostream can't touch them. You're safe to do whatever you want once they're downloaded into the machine.

Photostream does not use up iCloud storage space.

Most likely your backup, more specifically your Camera Roll in backup.

You should be able to see a detailed usage under Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup> Manage Storage>[Device Name]. You can see what Apps are backing up data to the cloud and select individual apps to disable backing up. It should also tell you what your next backup file size will be.

At least that's how it is in 5.1. I honestly can't remember if that's new or a 5.0.1 feature.

As far as I can tell, iCloud on iOS5.0.1 has virtually no options with iCloud other than on/off and buy more space. I'm really looking forward to 5.1 where it seems there will be more options in many areas.

The features mentioned above for iCloud have been in since the beginning even the betas. Read the apple.com help article I linked to above.
