Just got a new 27” 5K iMac. I transferred about two thousand photos, via USB flash drive , from a W7 machine to the iMac. The total file size on the drive was 32GB. After the transfer, the total file size on the iMac was about 2GB????? Also, all the TIFF files were converted to JPEG??? I want to transfer CS6, including about three thousand more photos to the new Mac, will I encounter problems???

Not unusual since TIFF files are considerably larger than JPEG which is a compressed format. I don't know for certain if Adobe is still cross licensing CS from Win to Mac. At one time they were but it's probably a good idea to inquire of them. Transferring 3K photos should not be a problem provided your iMac has the space. Also, might be a good time to read up on the macOS Photos program to see if you want to use it to categorize your photos. Lots of difference between the way the Mac stores photos than that of Windows.

How did you import those images from the USB drive to the Mac?

If you had simply copied the files to a folder using Finder, then there should have been no conversion. For that matter, if you had Imported the images using the Photos app, there should have been no conversion (the Photos app supports imported TIFFs and also provides optional conversion to TIFF when Exporting).

So what you have is an unexpected result. So, were the files truly TIFFs? Did they have a different file extension? Did you drop the files onto a particular app, or simply copy from the SD card to the internal HD? Is there a possibility that you also had reference JPGs of those TIFFs on that SD card, along with the TIFFs?

Thank you, CHSCAG and APFELKUCHEN, for your replies. I will continue to research this irregularity. If I find an answer I’ll post it here.
