Hi all. We have a late 2017 iMac with Photos 2.0. I transferred over my iPhoto library from our 2007 Mac mini and got Photos 2.0 working perfectly.
The problem that I have is that essentially, even after 10 months of usage, Photos is keeping 2 Libraries...the original that I copied onto the iMac and the one Photos 2.0 created during the import of the original Library. The new one is in the Desktop folder while the older one is in the Pictures folder. I have confirmed that Photos 2.0 is utilizing the Desktop library via Preferences>General.
If I look at the file information for each file, the Modified tag is the exact same timestamp. The original iPhoto Library is 209GB while the newer one is 317GB. So there's almost 120GB of extra stuff.
My guess is that Photos keeps updating the timestamp on the older Library for some reason since the timestamps are identical...it's probably not adding new pix to the old library.
The big deal here is that I am basically wasting over 200GB of drive space (and backup space and backup time).
I don't want to just delete 1 of them and I certainly cannot just carry this iMac into Apple if deleting it mucks up Photos 2.0.
I guess as a test I can move the old Library to another area on the hard drive and open Photos and see what happens. But, I would prefer to know in advance.
How can I fix this?
Thanks!!
