I took the plunge and bought a new rMBP. I mistakenly restored my entire backup (instead of just my data) from my Time Machine backup.

The photos app is now missing. When I check for updates on the App store, there is no option to re-download beta 10.10.3 nor is there an obvious way to bring back the Photos app. My library has already been converted, so I have to stick with the beta now.

Any ideas?

When you say restored, I'm assuming you restored back to a pre-beta stage?

The purchase tab doesn't show updates, just what you installed, so you can't go that route.

how did you enable the beta, and is it the developer's version or the public? On the developer's preview, you typically need to download and run a small app that allows the beta to be shown in the app store. I'm not sure of the process is the same for public beta (And I forget if that app is just for developer previews of the OS, i.e., beta of Yosemite or includes the patches).

You just need the Beta Access Utility again, as maflynn rightly says. Presumably this is how you obtained the beta in the first place, so you just need to do this again!

Let us know how you get on!

I was on the public beta. I re ran the utility on the new Mac to allow betas.
I restored Photos from backup, but it won't run since I'm on 10.10.2.
I've went to the App Store and checked for updates. It shows I've installed 10.10.3 and there's no option to download it again. I may have to wait for the next beta.

Ah OK. The filename for the update is OSXUpd10.10.3PublicSeed.pkg.

If you can find a download link (on Google for example) for the above then you can install that and be back on the Beta. I wouldn't trust any downloads not from Apple's servers.

Next beta shouldn't be too far away though.

When I search for that file, will I be able to find a download from Apple?

When I search for the file, foreign sites come up. Not sure how to convince the Apple servers to let me download it again.

When I search for that, the very last link is a foreign result but with an Apple URL in it...

Do you trust it?

Yeah, it's from the Apple servers so is legit.

Link looks to have an extra space but I'm sure you can work it out. Apologies for being so vague, AFAIK it's against the forum rules to post direct links to these.

I downloaded one of these betas and ran it. Circle with a slash after reboot. Had to reinstall 10.10,2.

I wish there was a way to tell App Store that I need to re download. Obviously I'm going to have to wait.
