Hi - I have a large(ish) photo libray about 150GB and 25000 images. Most of these images are shot on my DLSR or old slides scanned in. They are pretty high resolution. I want all of my images on the hard drive of my mac book so I can get at them when I want. I have a mac book pro i7 2.8GHz with 512GB SSD and a 1TB regular drive, 16GB ram.

I used to use Picasa for managing my library but as it is now way past end of life I thought photos would be best choice. I like being able to get photos from iPhone straight in there, and also being able to view my albums easily with my Apple TV.

But it seems slow when I first open it it can take a minute or two to show anything and clicking between different images or views can again be slow and frequently ends in a crash. It doesn't feel zippy like picasa. Even when i'm not using it it seems to slow down my computer scanning images for faces.

Any ideas?
