Photos App wants to Import Photos It Already has.

When connecting my iPhone the photos app will say there are photos that have not been imported from my iPhone that are already in the photos app. Is there a way to fix this? the timeframe is odd. There are several recent pictures it says are not in the photos app that are and then there are several older ones it is doing this to as well.

For what it's worth I have the exact same problem, and I have found no solution. I don't envy the difficulty in solving the problem from a software engineering standpoint, but it seems like there should be some sane way to manage this.

Me too. It sucks as it does not even show all thumbnails, so I can not easily select the new ones. Does not matter if the source is an iPhone or my dedicated camera.

Now that I am considering alternatives, what would be one that
– has no subscription model,
- can handle videos too,
- has an unobtrusive user interface, and
- performs well with >15k photos and videos?

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Despite its flaws, I've drunk the Apple Koolaid. For me - taking photos of my kids and stuff like that, Photos is good enough. Also allows me to share photos with other Apple Koolaid drinkers easily.

I used to use Picasa (a Google photo library management tool). It was wonky but good enough as well. They've moved to an entirely online system, perhaps it's worth looking at.

Adobe might offer something as well.

But no subscription? Everything requires a subscription these days, even if it's "free".

Agree - it does the stuff I need well, but I am baffled how they messed up the "import new" function, given that it has these bugs even with Apple hardware. Hope that the version included in Big Sur fixes that.

I would not count on it.

Given all the Apple products in my home, the benefits outweigh the annoyances. I try to use my family iCloud account to make sure everything is synced, and 80% of the time it works 99% of the time.

Apple services... just say no. Apple has yet to demonstrate competency in services while they've been demonstrating incompetency for years.

I've had mostly good experiences with Apple's services. Perhaps I'm just lucky.

I would say so. My contacts database and my calendar are far too important to ever trust them to iCloud again.
