i had synched my old photos from my Mac. I just realized those photos are gone from my phone.

I have 200gb iCloud backup that is turned on. iPhone storage seems to take up as much space as before.

Anyone has an idea what happened and/or ways to fix this?

Do you use iCloud Photo Library/Photo Stream? Have you check icloud.com > Photos to see if photos are there by any chance??

Synced photos (using iTunes sync) are not backed up anywhere. If you restored your phone, you will have to sync them again.

Nope, it's not in iCloud photos either.

So, would it stick around if I sync it again? I just started the iCloud backup expecting all photos in my iPhone including ones that synced in from iTunes to be backup.

In the worst vase, I'm okay for them to not backup but shouldn't be deleted from my phone.

Photos added with folder sync (iTunes and 99.9% of iTunes alternative apps) are not included in both iTunes and iCloud backup. Also I'm not sure if they will be saved with iCloud Photo Library. Best option in this case is to keep a backup of these photos in Google Photos or on the external drive (better in both imo).

But it shoudn't dissapear after a simple update. Was it OTA or with iTunes? Also, have you noticed if something else is gone? And I assume that you've just updated iOS, no clean install, right?

Synced photos from iTunes aren't backed up because you already HAVE a backup, on the computer you sync them from. Including them in the backup would be redundant.

Just sync again and everything should be as it once was.

I purchased iCloud storage and upgraded to iOS 12 around the same time so I can't tell exactly when my photos from iTunes disappeared from my phone. It's true that I don't need them to be backed up, but I want them to be in my phone. Thanks for helping.

I just tried to re-sync in my photos to my iPhone except since I've also got iCloud Photos turned on, it's not allowing me to sync my photos to the phone through iTunes any more. Is there a way to sync my photos from old days before the iPhone, while having iCloud Photos turned on?
