I realise this is still new for Apple so it's not a big complaint, but is there any way to merge faces iOS believes are two different people? I've got a few instances where iOS can't recognise that some photos are the same person, and even "confirm additional pictures" isn't bringing these up as possibles. Google photos has correctly grouped these photos all as one person so I know it's possible, so have I missed something obvious to merge two faces?

Name them. When the drop down appears with the list of names you'd like to select, choose the correct one. If you've already named another grouping with that same name, the app will ask you if you'd like to merge those two together.

Edit: Alternatively you can tap "select" at the top right of the screen, select all similar faces, and then choose "merge" at the bottom of the screen.

It seems the faces / people in Photos on my iPhone are not the same as in Photos on MacOS Sierra??! Any one else, is this normal? Or how to solve?

The face recognition is being done separately on the iPhone and Mac - though they might sync these soon enough

"Apple also reiterated that it isn’t collecting user data in iCloud-stored photos to improve the AI behind its subject recognition in Photos. That’s why indexing photos happens separately on each device (like Mac, iPhone, and iPad) and object/facial recognition data isn’t synced.

Is there a way to remove certain pictures from a group?

Go to the group in question, hit "Select" at the top, choose the picture, click the up arrow button in the bottom toolbar, scroll the bottom set of tool icons until you see "Not This Person". Click it.

You can also Force Touch on a specific picture then slide up and it will give you the same option.

Is it possible to change the cover photo of each person? I deleted one on accident, but cannot figure how to re-establish another in its place.

I have a problem with indexing photos. After installing the IOS 10 indexing photos was okay. I had a large number of people detected. (30 people and with each 200-300 photos). Then I deleted all the photos and download it from iCloud. Now I have to recognize about 10 people with 1-3 photos ..... any ideas?

Nice! Never would have figured that out on my own. Thanks.

Yes, follow the instructions I noted a few posts up but instead of choosing "Not This Person" choose "Set Key Face".

I'm finding the facial recognition to be way too conservative. Far too often a person is separated into multiple "files" instead of being linked as the same person. So far I haven't found any mistakes where the person was tagged as someone else, but, Its very annoying to have to search thru all the "suggested" faces and link them together manually.

Extremely frustrating that it happens separately on each device, especially after I once spent a LONG time on the Mac Photos app naming all the suggested faces it detected. And now to be expected to do it again on the iPhone? (and possibly AGAIN on Sierra Photos when I upgrade??)

Also does anyone know how to change the 'featured' photo for each person? Some of the ones it has chosen are not flattering...

The current lack of syncing was listed in the release notes and this is a beta

Thank you for pointing out the glaringly obvious.

As per posts in this thread it seemed that facial recognition happening per device is intentional and not just a pre-release limitation

I remember when I heard of this "new" feature I was confused b.c my Mac already had it.

So why ask the question

And now to be expected to do it again on the iPhone?

When you know the answer. Yes, for now, until they introduce syncing. Welcome to beta testing.

If they're made this decision because of differential privacy then it makes sense that they won't introduce syncing. Climb out your arse and stop trying to patronise me, this is not my first beta rodeo.

No, that makes no sense. Differential Privacy has nothing to do with syncing within in an icloud account - it's about the analysis of aggregate data across many. Helpful if you know what a term means before using it.

Secondly, as a I already stated, the release notes (you read the release notes, right?) state the current absence of the feature.

Finally, Craig Federighi stated that syncing is coming..

I'm merely referring to what someone else in this thread stated as true. You've been talking down to everyone you reply to over the past few days and it's getting pretty boring to see over and over

I just loaded b3 the other day and opened the People folder for the first time today (plenty of time for it to work on faces). It is empty and says No People Found. Now I don't have a lot of pictures but I do have 20 or 30 pictures of at least one person in there that I would think should be recognized. Any ideas why it wouldn't be working? I don't have iCloud Photo Library turned on. Could that be it? I thought the recognition was local. This is on an iP6. Is it a 6s feature?
