Photos for Mac

Is there an update for Photos for Mac coming with El Capitan? If so it would increase Photos usefulness greatly if there was a link to an External Editor as in iPhoto. The editing capability of Photos is very limited and it is a several step process -- including export and subsequent import -- to use an external editor.
