Photos I took while in China Quarantine (Swine Flu)

So, long story short, I left California last Wednesday. Parents decided it would be a great idea to maybe go to China for a damn month, because we have some relatives there.
Now, I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, displaying all the symptoms for Swine Flu. Whether I have influenza or Swine Flu, I can't tell at this point. Unfortunately for me, like I said, I'm in China, and the Communist Party doesn't give a damn whether I have it. If I go seek any medical help at all, I'm going straight to quarantine.

The State Department also said it had "received reports about unsuitable quarantine conditions, including the unavailability of suitable drinking water and food, unsanitary conditions, and the inability to communicate with others." All travelers to China, including U.S. citizens, are obliged to follow local public health-related measures, and there's no compensation for lost travel expenses. Travelers to China should consider buying travel insurance to protect against losses in case they are quarantined, recommended the State Department.
On June 8, 2009 China reported that New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, his wife and a security guard, although symptom free, were being held in quarantine after flying on a plane carrying a passenger who exhibited symptoms. Nagin was traveling to China and Australia on an economic development trip. However, according to Fox News, "they don't even allow phone calls," reporting that the Chinese were also screening his calls "to keep him safe," and have refused even to pass on telephone messages without the permission of government health officials.

Considering the conditions there aren't the best, I'm stuck. All I can do is hope my symptoms clear up soon.
Ah well. Just another day. I certainly hope I don't have Swine Flu.

I don't think there is any way of knowing except for laboratory tests.
I had just gotten my MacBook Pro 13". If I get stuck in quarantine, I'm guessing they wouldn't let me play CoD4, for my own saftey.

hey itll be fine.
i dont know when the symptoms started to show. youll be feeling pretty bad for about 3-7 days.
the symptoms should clear up by then, and you'll feel fine.
try to restrict your activities, and drink lots of liquid.
and even if the symptoms do clear up give it a few more days to rest, because your body will be tired fighting the virus and the fever/other symptoms might come back.
that sucks though, i hope you have a good trip

oh and by the way there arent really any discriminating symptoms, thats why doctors need to actually test to confirm. and because there are so many people showing symptoms they're assuming they all have swine, to be 'safe'

oh and another thing i forgot
you wont die unless youre extremely obese or have other health issues

First batch. I can upload 5 at once, so here we go!

First Photo: A window. Me looking out of it. The bars are meant to keep thieves out, but just makes me feel like I'm in jail.

Second Photo: Well, that's where the doctors come in. They come in with Tyvek Barrier Man suites that have the words "Manufactured for China" on them. Of course, they had the masks and the eye gear. This is a link to the "Barrier Man" I was talking about.

Third Photo: They tell me that big metal thing is a defibrillator. That thing was gonna wake me up in case the Swine Flu got into my lungs, and I stopped breathing.

Fourth Photo: Ermmm... That's the toilet. Thank goodness I'm male, eh?
Oh, and they didn't have any toilet paper, my family had to buy some for me. (That's tradition in China though)
Thank goodness I didn't have errr... any feces to dispose of, if you will.

Fifth Photo: Very nice, very clean sink, as you can see. There were trails of dirt that weren't caused by me, and there was no soap at all. I'm pretty sure that the water here wasn't exactly the cleanest.

Photo One: When they weren't looking, I opened my door and looked out. If I went outside, oh God, they would've had me chained down on my bed.

Photo Two: Well, there's a blood pressure monitor. The type my grandma uses, of course. I can't say this is "high-tech" in any way.
It on top of the defibrillator I mentioned before.

Photo Three: My God. That's my bedside table thing. Oh, there's the bell I had to ring. I mean toy, sorry, my bad. They didn't have any way of me calling the nurses, so they gave me that toy. I had to shake it for them to come. Unfortunately, when I shook it, they didn't come.
Next to it, is the green box. In that box, they have bleach, and that's where the put the thermometers after they put them in my mouth and looked at them temperature. Again, not exactly very high-tech. Not even electronical.

Photo Five: Actual shot of the "Thermometer Box" with the lid taken off. You can see the bleach inside, with the Thermometers. Needless to say, they didn't wipe them before they put them in my mouth, so my mouth was full of bleach every time.

There's the toilet paper I was talking about!
There's food inside that green bag thing. I didn't eat it/open it up, so I don't know what it was like. However, they did ask me what I wanted, so that's always nice. Of course, no American food.
Really old Jansport backpack there, and on the wall, you can sorta see my MacBook Pro charger.
There's a Coke that my family bought for me, and a hot water bottle thingy.
The water in that hot water bottle was scalding, so I wasn't able to drink any. However, that's the way most Chinese people drink water.

Photo Two: Whooppeee! My MacBook Pro! In a Chinese hospital, following me around quarantine. Too bad there was no WiFi!

Photo Three: A broader view of the room. The really uncomfortable bed, with a terrible blanket.

Photo Four: Ohhh. There's an Air Conditioner that didn't seem to work. Or maybe it was one of those humidity things. I don't know what that was. That didn't bother me at all, so it doesn't really matter, does it?

Photo Five: Ouch. The sign right outside my door. Translated, that means: Severe Illness "Room".

I took these 5 photos after I got information from the doctors I didn't have Swine Flu. Thus, I was allowed to walk outside/around.

I had suspected swine flu last week. Went to the doctors and he said I had all the symptoms, but the day before the government (UK) announced that they were no longer testing for it because so many new cases were popping up. So I never found out if that's what I had or not. I was offered Tamiflu, but the side effects (diarrhea, vomiting etc) sounded worse than the flu itself so I declined. Glad you got through it ok though in such a hostile environment, and that you were allowed to use your MBP!!
