Photos in iCloud?

I'm very confused and can't find anything that answers things succinctly.

I have an Apple TV. I wish to have it's screen saver use pictures that I choose rather than apple's nature photos or whatever.

There is an iCloud option...

From what I've read, you can't just put a folder of pictures in iCloud like you would say, Dropbox.

It's just there to store pictures temporarily while you move them from mac to iphone or some garbage like that.

So even if i use iPhoto (sigh) to put pictures in iCloud..they're just there for 30 days til it deletes them?

You need to create a separate photo stream for the screen saver.

In iPhoto, select a photo the hit Share, select iCloud, then "New photo stream". For future photos, you would just select the photo stream you just created.

On an iOS device you would select the photo, hit the share button, select iCloud, then select the photo stream at the bottom of the popover window where it says the word Stream.

Shared photo streams don't have a 30 day expiration.

Though I've been able to set up a shared photostream (with no one)...I can't put pictures in it... I get a picture going in animation, but they don't show up.

Open the iCloud Photo option (not in settings) in Apple TV to see what all is coming up and check if the shared stream shows up with photos ...

Then select it as screensaver under settings ... might be your network from ATV

Ah..the problem was I had little snitch blocking the connect to amazonaws.com. Which does lead to the question, why is Apple using Amazon for iCloud?
