I've got iCloud and have sync'd all my photos between my 2015 MacBook Pro (Monterey) and my iPhone. Using my MacBook I've added a ton of keywords in Photos. This is extremely handy! However, when I use my iPhone I don't see the Keywords (when pressing the i button) and I don't see how I could add a Keyword in my iPhone. Not that I'd want to add a Keyword in my iPhone - it is just handy for a quick search - for example when out with friends and you want to quickly access something you know is in your Photos collection.

Also, I can add a Title when using Photos on my MacBook - I don't see the Title in Photos on my iPhone.

So, what's the deal?

Open a picture in the iOS photos app then press on it and slide upwards. You can add a CAPTION to the image. The image will then be searchable by caption.

Example- add the caption “home” to all your pictures at home and then when you search “home” they’ll all be presented

Yes, I do see a space for a caption on my iPhone. I take it that Keywords and Title are not available on the iPhone. What a shame - because I spent many, many, hours creating Keywords so that I could quickly search images. Had I known the iPhone lacked this functionality - I wouldn't have wasted my time.

Mac Photos tags are for the Mac photos app only.
First I spent years using Tags in macOS to tag my photos - which were stored in an ordinary directory. Then, after a decade I finally decided to use Photos and subsequently switched to using Keywords in Photos. And, after spending all that time creating Keywords I find out that there are two incompatible versions of Photos - the one for macOS and the one for iOS. What is this? A dysfunctional Microsoft Windows system?

Have you tried checking iOS 16 or iOS 17?

You will need a different iPhone model since iPhone 7 Plus is only up to iOS 15.x

This is because the VoiceOver caption lives and dies only on device and doesn’t leave the iPhone.

What's a VoiceOver caption? I don't believe I have a "VoiceOver" caption. I have a field called "caption" in a software program called Photos - that exists both on my 2015 MacBook and my 2017 iPhone. Your last comment stating that this information doesn't leave my iPhone is disturbing - because I've spent an enormous amount of time adding Keywords & GPS locations to the photos photos on my Photo application.

I've attached a screen capture showing the Info dialog window from the Photos application on my 2015 MacBook. The available fields are

1) Title
2) Caption
3) Keywords
4) GPS

There might be more items - these are just the ones that I know about.

The example below has entries for both the Caption and Keywords - but not the Title. My original concern expressed in my first post was that the Keywords were seemingly unavailable in my iPhone Photos app. whereas they are available on my MacBook Photos. However, it might be the case that the iPhone Photos can still search those entered keywords.

I would ALWAYS want this information to be WITH the photos - being that I've spent a huge amount of time adding this information. All of these photos are in the iCloud - so I am under the impression if, say, I buy a new phone I won't suddenly lose all this metadata. I mean - what the hell would be the point of spending hundreds of hours adding this information if that information were to suddenly evaporate over something trivial like upgrading hardware.
