Dear all,

I moved my 9 gig big .photoslibrary file to an external drive.
(BTW: This drive serves as a Timemachine backup drive)
I did this for freeing up diskspace on my internal drive.
When i want to open this .photolibrary with Photos, it throws up an error that it can't be opened
cause it is damaged.
I did the library repair function within Photos but no succes.

Anyone to the rescue ?
TIA !

Which version of MacOS? Which version of Photos? Is the Photos version you try to open the library in the same Version you created it?

Please check the photo library store location. Photos.app -> Preferences... -> General -> Library Location: , then click Show in Finder to show Photos Library.photoslibrary in Finder.

Worst case solution: Copy all original photos from photo library.

a). Access the location of Photo Library.photoslibrary in Finder.

b). Right click the Photo Library.photoslibrary, and choose Show Package Contents.

c). Access the Masters folder, you will find all original photos are stored under this folder.

Thx for helping !

I am currently not on my macbook. (Air, from 2015).
But it runs OSX Mojave and the latest version of Photos which is compatible with Mojave.
The Timemachine drive on which the Photos lib is placed is a Seagate drive, formattted HFS extended.

I did acces the Masters (Originals) folder.
I can see alot of subfolders from which many are just empty .. o_O

If your running time machine you should be able to restore the photos.
Connect your Time Machine drive to Mac and run Time Machine from System Preference.

Scroll the timeline on the right side, click the desired backup (the date of your last backup).

Navigate to the backup of your Photos library (by default, your Photos Library locates in "Home/Pictures/Photos Library" folder), click to select it and click "Restore" to retrieve your data.

When i do "get info" on the .photoslibrary file, i see it's about 9 gigabyte big.
When i do "get info" on the "Originals" folder it's about 950 mb big.
Pretty weird ..

I will try to get the desired timemachine backup of the photos library back.
