Ever since upgrading to iOS 10, I've had a persistent problem with photos.

Issue 1:

When I plug my iPhone into my Macbook Air (running 10.10.5 Yosemite), the Photos app says there is nothing to import. But I've taken hundreds of photos/videos on Camera Roll. Is there a way to get the Photos app to recognize what's on my device again? The Mac app starts automatically when I plug my phone in, so the computer recognizes it as a device - it just doesn't think there are any photos to import when there are hundreds.

I'm running 10.10.5 Yosemite and I don't want to upgrade to macOS Sierra. I'd prefer not to have to do a clean install of 10.2.1 on my phone, but I will if I have to.

Issue 2:

Less important, but still annoying - I have a few photo folders synced to the phone, and for one of them, it will only show photos dated as far back as March 2015. Any earlier in date, and they are not displayed/stored on the phone for some reason. There are no differences in files types or formats, and were all viewable on the phone with iOS 8/9. This issue began with iOS 10. No idea why. Thoughts?

If you have iCloud Photolibrary enabled you can't manually import photos.
Just so you know.

hi

question: on both of your devices, in both iOS and macOS, you dont have either iPhoto Library or Photo Stream checked, is that correct?

on my devices i myself dont have iPhoto Library checked, and am a holdout for only having Photo Stream checked.
so in my case my photos are synced well even before the occasional time i do usb connect my iPhone to my mac and then sync photos manually.
for me, Photo Stream has never failed to work and work well.

in your case, assuming that the only that you have been syncing in the past is manually through iTunes, then there are only a limited number of possible problems/solutions:
1 make sure in iTunes that you do have the albums checked that you do want to sync
2 are you sure they havent been synced before and are in the macOS album called "Photos" , or, the macOS album called "All Photos" ?
3 have you tried to reimport them by possibly putting them into a new album on your iPhone and then on your mac making sure that that album is checked for import?

sorry if any of the above isn't helpful in your case....
