Photos on Mac crashes upon import under Sierra

I upgraded my Mac Pro to the Sierra release and now if I drag or import any photo into the Mac OS Photos app my my Mac, the app just crashes. Works for everything else except for adding new pictures. Anyone else?

Hi, 10.12 - the public release version

Try rebuilding library in Photos app. On launch hold down option key. Choose the library.
It should highlight best guess. Rebuild.

I had this same issue when importing pictures in from an iPhone 6s Plus running iOS10.0.2
The Photos.app crashes and from looking at Console its crashing due to a Segmentation Fault.
I guess I'll be waiting for the next update hoping for it to be fixed. I don't want to mess with anything because its the one Mac Mini that has all our families photos. (2010 Mac Mini running 10.12.1 Build: 16B2327e)

Thanks but unfortunately repairing the library didn't solve the problem, also rebooting etc - photos just crashes (quits) whenever I try to import a photo or drag a photo into it.

such a shame they got rid of Aperture, it was much better than this and only needed the iCloud photo library sync feature.

I use Picasa as a backup, Plus I have like 100gb on my Google Drive. It just works a lot better that way.

I would try deleting the preferences file (might got corrupted).

Do you know how to do that ?

Thanks, tried that - didn't help . . . it allows import to a brand new library but not the one (which I have tried repairing) that I have all my photos in, I think it must be a bug with the sierra version, possibly when you try to import a photo and it checks to see if that photo is already in there because I get this error:

I have a similar problem.

I have a 256 GB iPhone 7 with 256 GB storage. My Macb has a 256 GB storage as well, so I can´t import stuff directly to my Mac. That´s why I bought an external harddrive. I hated using iPhoto. Sure, it works great if you add a few thousand photos and videos. However, after adding 30-50.000 photos and videos to it, it became so slow it was not possible to use it anymore. Especially not directly from an external harddive like I am forced to do due to my Mac´s low storage size. That´s why I upgraded my Mavericks to Sierra; Now I´m running Photos instead of iPhoto. And it´s much faster than iPhoto. However (!), when I connect my iPhone 7 to my Mac and click "IMPORT NEW" on my 50.000 iPhone photos or so (I decided I´d create a brand new Photos gallery) the program just crashes. Again and again. I have sent a bug report to Apple twice. Any ideas?

I am running Sierra v. 10.12.5, so I wouldn´t be too sure about that. I try again and again and it just crashes. Others must experience this problem too.. Should I just keep sending the error reports to Apple and just hope for the best!?

Using a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro here, with OS X Sierra 10.12.5.
When viewing an email that has attached images / pictures / photos in Apple Mail, the computer completely shuts off and reboots—twice. After the 2nd reboot, it starts back up, I can log in, and try again. Viewing plain text / HTML emails is fine, just the emails with photos makes the computer shut down.
What's going on?!

My Photo app on High Sierra (version 10.13) on my iMac crashes shortly after startup. I have rebuild the library but get the same result with a huge crash report. My library has over 6000 photo's. I have also the Photo app running on my Macbook with some 600 photos. No problem. So I imported the photo library from my iMac to my Macbook. The started the Photo app with Option Key and selected the larger library that I copied from my iMac. When opening Photos it stays active for a short while and I can see that it has 6000+ photos, but after 15 seconds it stops. I get a little menu asking whether I want to restart it and report the problem to Apple.

I have recovered a previous version of my photo library using Time Machine. Then I have rebuilt it to photos and now it works OK for months.

i had the same issue.
I sent 10 pics using airdrop and selected open in photos on my mac, after they showed up selected import all new items those pics ended up in the library. After that i just plugged in the cable and imported all new photos and it worked.
